Red Dead Redemption PC Version Was Never “Seriously Talked About”

Despite being developed in a PC environment, Rockstar's Western was always meant for Xbox 360 and PS3.

Rockstar Games’ Red Dead Redemption still has plenty of life in it. Though it released in 2010, there’s still a demand for a PC version and for making the Xbox 360 version backwards compatible on Xbox One. As it turns out, there were never any initial plans for the company to release a PC edition according to Kris Roberts. Roberts worked as lead multiplayer designer on the game and is now a vehicle design specialist for H1Z1.

Answering questions on a Twitch stream, Roberts said that, “I don’t think there was ever an intention to have a PC version of Red Dead Redemption. I was actually super shocked that they did a PC version of Grand Theft Auto V.

“Obviously in development, we were all PC-based and had it running for win32 clients for the entire development. But as far as the licensing for the consoles and stuff, it was pretty much always going to be a Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 title. To the best of my recollection, we never even seriously talked about optimizing it for PC.”

Though it could still make its way to the platform, it seems the best way to experience Red Dead Redemption is still on consoles. But hey, if Grand Theft Auto 5 could make it then there’s still hope.
