Tom Clancy's The Division

Ubisoft has been teasing some pretty good looking weather effects for Tom Clancy’s The Division, it’s upcoming massively multiplayer third person shooter which takes place in a quarantined New York City. While we know that the engine will be capable of real-time weather effects and degradation, we never really saw the effects of that till now.

As senior game designer Fredrik Thylander revealed in a new blog post, there will be storms that can effect your aim assist. Detection ranges for both enemies and players will also be reduced. There will also be cases where players need to “adjust themselves in order [to] avoid a face full of frost” which could mean dressing more heavily in case of colder weather. It also seems that the weather and time of day will allow players to “experience civilians and wildlife differently.”

Lead concept artist Tom Garden further stated that, “A mission during the day has a totally different mood than a mission during the night.” So some areas may be significantly more menacing when the lights go out.

Tom Clancy’s The Division is out on March 8th for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
