Call of Duty Black Ops 3 Earns $550 Million in Three Days

Biggest entertainment launch of 2015 thus far.

Call of Duty Black Ops 3

As usual, the Call of Duty franchise has made serious bank for Activision. Treyarch’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 released on November 6th and managed to earn $550 million in its first three days (which is sell-through to consumers, not retail). Players have played more than 75 million hours combined in that period.

To make things even better, its digital sales were double that of Advanced Warfare and retail sales are up “significantly” over the past two years. It’s also currently the “best-selling digital full game by units sold in its first day of availability” and the most streamed on Twitch “of any game launch in 2015.”

It’s interesting because this is actually the weakest iteration in the Call of Duty: Black Ops franchise with several critics pointing out the incoherent campaign and latency issues in multiplayer. Nonetheless, multiplayer is vastly improved over Advanced Warfare and that’s where the majority of the audience will be.
