Naughty Dog On Uncharted 4’s Dialogue Options: ‘We’re Not Making Mass Effect’

Co-director Neil Druckmann says this is a "very specific story with a very specific ending".

Uncharted 4: A Thief's End

Naughty Dog’s Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is still a ways off, having been delayed to April end for further polishing. However, while we’re most intrigued by the conclusion to Nathan Drake’s story, a lot of attention has been drawn to the game’s dialogue options, seen in one of the opening scenes from PlayStation Experience. It doesn’t seem that they’ll be very elaborate and co-director Neil Druckmann confirmed as much in an interview with Eurogamer.

“The thing I want to make sure we’re clear about is that we’re not making Mass Effect. Uncharted has a very specific story, it has a very specific ending that’s very definitive to the franchise. But every once in a while we felt a dialogue tree would really bring you more into the scene.

“And there’s something about Sam asking Nate about his old adventures that’s like, it would be kind of fun to have Nate – and therefore the player – pick which story they want to tell first. And there’s a few other instances like that where it felt like a dialogue tree was just going to get you more into the scene and make it more interactive.”

Will that really hope in making things more interactive, especially when the ending and events remain the same? We’ll find out for ourselves when Uncharted 4 releases on April 26th for PS4.
