This close to its official announcement and release, the Nintendo NX remains a frustrating enigma. The new game platform for Nintendo is supposed to be something entirely new, and an entirely new refresh for the Japanese giant- but we still don’t know a whole lot about it. We don’t even get too many leaks from third party partners, which is definitely unsettling, since most of the times, third parties end up leaking information about systems before the systems themselves are announced.

That said, we have had a few lucky breaks before, from Ready at Dawn, and from Square Enix. Now, an indie game developer, Bplus Games, have inadvertently told us more about Nintendo’s new system while discussing their upcoming Steam game, Puzzlebox Setup.

Puzzlebox Setup is a Steam Early Access follow up to a 3DS game of the same name; when asked on Facebook whether the game may make its way back to the 3DS, the developer replied with a surprising no. The reason?

Not possible, this game is made for NX but modified to be released on Steam earlier; because sadly I’m not able to wait till NX and need to release this game soon,” he said.

Bplus also revealed that the game will be cross platform- user made levels can be shared between the NX and Steam versions; he also hinted at some kind of special controller for the NX. “Because of the controls you will be able to use 8 different colors instead of 4,” he said, referring to how the game plays (see the trailer below to get a better idea). “[This] opens possibilities to completely different pictures and modes for NX Version.”

This is all extremely fascinating- we know that Nintendo is allowing for cross platform play, now, and we also receive more confirmation that the NX’s controller is something absolutely new. Also, if confirmation of this was needed, we also know that the NX is conclusively more powerful than the Nintendo 3DS. Whoo.

Nintendo have, as of right now, still not officially announced the NX; they have stated that they plan on revealing it in 2016, and analysts have speculated that they may officially announce it in March.
