Sony has seen several different phases through its decades as a console manufacturer. Though the PS4 has been an amazing success since day one, the company wasn’t always so fortunate. And believe it or not, but it didn’t even have an official mascot for most of its years. And that’s not including the utter insanity that was Ken Kutaragi at times. Collaboration with Nintendo (and Sega)

When Sony first decided to venture into the console business, it wanted to do so in collaboration with Nintendo and create an add-on for the SNES that would play CDs. However, the latter wanted absolute control of licensing rights. Sony then went to Sega which chose to focus more on its Sega CD attachment to the Genesis. Neither of this stopped the company from eventually launching the PlayStation on its own.
