Street Fighter 5 Breaks Registration Records at EVO 2016

The competitive community comes through.

Street Fighter 5

Street Fighter V’s launch has been a bit of a disaster – negative scores, backlash from players, missing modes, non functional online, and now, apparently, low sales, too – but the game was primarily made to cater to a competitive community. And that community, at least, has taken to the game in droves.

Just four days after registration at EVO opened, and less than a week after Street Fighter V launched, the game has already broken EVO’s registration records- and considering just how high the registration numbers were for some games last year (especially Ultra Street Fighter IV and Super Smash Bros.) that is truly impressive.

I think in the end, Street Fighter V’s excellent gameplay – which was never in question, after all – will shine through. The launch problems will eventually be fixed, and all of the problems will be a distant memory. But Street Fighter V is an excellently playing fighting game, which will ensure that it remains a community staple for years to come.

Street Fighter V is available on PlayStation 4 and PC.
