CD Projekt RED’s next project Gwent: The Witcher Card Game may not exactly be its usual gaming fare but it’s looking to improve upon criticisms present in games like Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft. One way of doing this is by allowing you to choose rare cards rather than relying on pure RNG when opening packs.
Principle narrative designer Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz stated that, “We have our own thoughts about card games in general, and we felt this innovation would reduce the frustration you sometimes get if you get all the cards you don’t want to have. This gives you at least some degree of control and you feel like you can pick what you like the best. We’re fair to players with our games, and we believe this is something they will enjoy and will improve their experience.”
Whenever you open a card pack, three rare or better cards will be revealed and you can choose to keep one while discarding the others. The next pack then grants you four more random cards and so on. How long before you actually encounter dupes? That remains to be seen so stay tuned for when Gwent: The Witcher Card Game releases for Xbox One and PC.
