In so many ways, Resident Evil 7 looks to be a total and absolute clean break from the series so far. It’s eschewing the third person view that the series has been associated with, and it even appears to narratively be going in a different direction. But in spite of how different Resident Evil 7 looks to be, it will still have callbacks to the previous games in the series in its story.
“[Resident Evil] Revelations is used as the name implies, to follow up a lot of story threads, so we do have that passing of taking stories from other games and answering them here, so it’s something that you can expect from this game, we just can’t say what that is right now,” Masachika Kawata of Capcom said to Yugatech in an interview.
Hopefully, it can be a part of the series’ continuity while still being its own thing- I think the game would benefit the best that way. Resident Evil 7 is due out in January on Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
