Respawn Entertainment’s Titanfall 2 has received quite the critical acclaim even if first week sales aren’t anything to shout about. The free DLC policy and lack of a Season Pass have also helped the buzz and EA explained in its recent earnings call why it chose this route.

As per CEO Andrew Wilson, “The feedback has been really, really positive. If you go and look at the player conversation in the marketplace right now around Titanfall 2, it’s very, very strong.” EA and Respawn have cited a “real commitment to players” to help build the franchise up.

CFO Blake Jorgensen said such strategies were necessary when thinking in the long term. “And so part of the strategy of building a franchise is you have a long view. You think about the business differently than you might an existing franchise like a FIFA or a Madden.

“And what that means is we’re looking for ways to not fragment the player base early, but to include as everybody as possible and as we can to continue to build that franchise.”

Titanfall 2 is currently available on Xbox One, PS4 and PC. What do you think of it thus far? Let us know in the comments.
