Destiny 2

Bungie’s Destiny 2 beta saw some interesting reactions with regards to weapon balance and Supers but seemed generally well liked. Activision at least seems to think so – in its recent earnings call, CEO Eric Hirshberg said that there have been “a lot of positive signs” for the sequel and that there’s a “tremendous amount of confidence” for it.

While Hirshberg said that the development cycle is “continuing to close strong”, probably indicating that the game is close to going gold, he said that, “We received almost universally positive feedback from both the press and the fans alike.” Again, it’s kind of a mixed bag since many praised the new story mission design while bagging on the lack of perk customization, Super damage, weapon balance, etc.

However, Activision is optimistic about Destiny 2 since it will be coming to PC, thanks in part to a collaboration with Blizzard’s Battle.net, and localization for more countries. Pre-orders have been “very strong” with an “overwhelmingly high percentage” being for the premium versions. Those feature the base game and access to two future expansions, the latter which Hirshberg states is as important as the launch content.

“Finally, and maybe most importantly with a game like this, Destiny is so engaging that the follow-on content is almost as important if not as important as the main game.” Hirshberg noted that Activision was, “Widening [its] stable of developers to keep up with demand for more content” as evidenced by High Moon Studios and Vicarious Visions assisting Bungie.

Destiny 2 is out for Xbox One and PS4 on September 6th. The PC version arrives on October 24th.
