Dontnod’s Vampyr Delayed to Spring 2018

Technical issue which has since been solved set the team's schedule back.

Life is Strange developer Dontnod Entertainment has announced its next big game, the action RPG Vampyr, has been delayed. It will now be releasing in Spring 2018 as per publisher Focus Home Interactive.

Dontnod Entertainment chief executive Oskar Guilbert released a statement on the same, noting that a technical issue caused the team’s schedule to be pushed back. Fortunately, the issue has been fixed.

“Delaying the release of a project you hold dear is always a tough decision. However, we believe that meeting a deadline should never compromise quality. We were still convinced just a few weeks ago that we would be able to release Vampyr this year. Unfortunately, a technical issue – now solved – has set our teams’ schedule back at the end of the development.”

In the meantime, Dontnod will use the additional time to improve the game. “This delay allows us enough time for all the polishing and balancing phase, much needed for a game of Vampyr‘s scope, with its ambitious, semi-open world, its complex narrative and deep RPG mechanics that give players a real impact on the world.”

Vampyr is pretty different from Dontnod’s other efforts. It takes place in 1918 London where the Spanish Flu is running rampant. Players assume the role of Dr. Jonathan Reid, a surgeon who becomes a vampire and must deal with his condition. Reid must contend with vampire hunters and the hunger to feast on the common populace, besides the overall chaos of society.

Players will have the opportunity to feed off of just about any NPC, making decisions to radically alter their character’s path. Hopefully we’ll get to see the full scope of this explored in the full release.
