If there is one thing the God of War series has always been known for, it has been size and scope. After all, who can forget the first time they lay eyes on Ares laying waste to Athens in the original game? Or the epic battle with the Colossus of Rhodes in God of War 2? Or, arguably the best moment in the series, the fight with Chronos in God of War 3?
So does it come as any surprise to anyone that the fourth God of War game, which is due out for the PS4 next year, will also be pushing the limits of sizes with present day console technology? Speaking on a recent official podcast, God of War Principal Character Artist Rafael Grassetti noted that the Midgard Serpent in the game, which was shown off in the game’s E3 trailer, will be pushing the boundaries of size, especially because it sounds like players will be able to interact with it in all sorts of ways.
This is exciting—especially because, unlike the previously massive enemies and setpiece moments in the series, the serpent will not be humanoid, which poses some interesting implications and possibilities for the gameplay. I can’t wait to see how it all turns out when God of War launches exclusively on the PS4 next year.
