Telltale Games Lays Off 25% Of Work Force, Announces Move To Third Party Engines

Hopefully the people who lost their jobs can land back on their feet again soon.

Telltale Games might have run into some hard times- the company announced today an organization wide restructuring, that sadly includes a reduction in the size of the work force. A staggering 25% of all people working at the developer have been laid off, Telltale Games confirmed today. Telltale stated that this trimming down is necessary so it can be more competitive, more focused, and deliver fewer, but higher quality, games.

The restructuring also includes a shift away from Telltale’s own engine – which has long since started to creak around the edges and increasingly been showing its age as Telltale’s games have grown in complexity – to third party middleware.

Telltale did make sure to add an assurance that neither of these changes will impact any of their previously announced projects. Which is good, I guess. I’m more bummed about all the people who lost their jobs- I hope they end up landing on their feet again some time soon.
