Nintendo Switch and Call of Duty: WW2 Lead Sales Charts In Japan This Week

Call of Duty claims the top spot in Japan, too.

Posted By | On 08th, Nov. 2017

This last week, the Nintendo Switch continued its uncontested reign at the top of Japanese hardware charts, with over 64,000 units sold. This was more than PS4 (almost 29,000 units sold), and 3DS (almost 21,000 units sold). Switch’s success can be attributed in part to Super Mario Odyssey, which sold over 115,000 units last week; the sales of the platform also led to a rise in sales for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and Splatoon 2.

However, it was not a Switch game that topped sales charts- it was actually Call of Duty: WW2. Selling almost 170,000 units last week, WW2 ended up with one of the best openings the series has had in Japan, and a massive increase over last year’s incredibly disappointing Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.

With the Holiday season coming up, sales of hardware and software in Japan should remain healthy for a while- and thanks to there being three healthy platforms there currently, we should see Japan recover from the truncation it experienced over the last few years.
