Gwent: The Witcher Card Game Campaign Delayed to 2018

The first campaign Thronebreaker will be out next year due to an increased scope.

CD Projekt RED may have generated tons of hype with Cyberpunk 2077, especially with back and forth stories over its production issues, but the developer is still dedicated to its collectible card game Gwent. Unfortunately, those looking for a strong single-player experience, especially from the first story campaign Thronebreaker, you’ll have to wait longer. The developer recently announced that Thronebreaker as been delayed to 2018.

In a recent blog post, studio co-founder Marcin Iwiński said that the campaign’s scope is being increased which will necessitate more work. “We decided to increase the campaign’s scope and need more time to work on it. Shifting release windows is always something we approach seriously, however, we’ll never hesitate to do it if we feel you’ll get a better game as a result. I would like to apologize everyone who planned to play Thronebreaker over the Holidays — I assure you that we will do our best to make the final game worth the additional wait.”

Iwiński noted that it would be taking Gwent out of beta next year anyway so you can expect more multiplayer updates in the coming months. New content like cards, vanity items, challenges, balance changes, game patches and what not are expected to be “published more frequently.”

Given how many times CD Projekt RED delayed The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, its last major release, to ensure its quality, seeing Gwent: The Witcher Card Game go in the same direction is hardly surprising. What are your thoughts on the delay though? Let us know in the comments.
