God of War Gets a Bunch of New Details About Its Combat, Traversal, and Upgrade System

This game sounds better and better.

God of War looks to be the most exciting PS4 exclusive coming this year, and just one of the best upcoming games in general. The game looks to be moving away from the fixed camera style action game that the series is known for, and moving towards a slower paced action adventure- it actually seems reminiscent of the pre-BotW Legend of Zelda games to me in many ways.

Now, we finally have some information on what to expect from the new game, thanks to a user on ResetEra sharing information from the upcoming Game Informer issue which spills more details on what to expect from the new game. For example, we learn that the combat this time is going to emphasize prioritizing enemies, much like the Z-target in older Zelda games (or similar mechanics in Assassin’s Creed and Dark Souls). Kratos’ son will be a a part of the move set and can be activated by using the [] button. You’ll also want to use your surroundings to gain the upper hand in combat where you can.

At the same time, jumping and swimming are both gone- and for traversing water, you will want to use boats. Finally, there will be an upgrades and crafting system in the game- skills, armor, and weapons can all be upgraded, and different kinds of armor can be crafted. We are also told there will be more applications of the crafting system, though what they might be, the developers refuse to share.

God of War is due out in early 2018 on PS4.
