The PlayStation 4 has been on a tear ever since launch and more than four years later, that’s barely changed. According to Sony Interactive Entertainment, the console sold over 5.9 million units during the Holiday 2017 season. It’s lifetime sales have since shot up to 73.6 million units sold globally.

Sony also managed to sell more than 55.9 million software units which encompassed both retail sales and digital sales on the PlayStation Store (the store witnessed its largest ever monthly sales in December 2017). Over its lifetime, the console has managed to sell 645 million software units which is incredible. PlayStation Plus is also bringing in some heavy revenue as Sony president and CEO John Kodera confirmed it had 31.5 million subscribers.

“I would like to express my deepest gratitude to our community and our partners for helping us achieve such phenomenal milestones. We promise our unwavering commitment to bring more amazing experiences to our fans, including exclusive games and innovative network services, as PS4 continues to flourish as the best place to play,” said Kodera.

While we weren’t provided explicit holiday sales figures for the PS4 Pro and PlayStation VR, it’s safe to say that the PS4 will hold on to its dominating lead for the foreseeable future. Especially with releases like God of War, Detroit: Become Human, Spider-Man and much more out in the first half of 2018.
