Bandai Namco invested a lot into Dragon Ball FighterZ, bringing on Guilty Gear developer Arc System Works to create a fast-paced 3v3 extravaganza. That gamble seems to have paid off with The Wall Street Journal’s Takashi Mochizuki‏ reporting on Twitter that over 2 million units of the game have shipped worldwide. Digital downloads are included and this is the fastest pace for the franchise yet.

As per ResetEra, opening shipments for Dragon Ball Xenoverse (which saw a staggered global launch) was at 1.5 million units. Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 managed 1.4 million units in its first week worldwide. While the series’ validity has never been questioned, the fact that Dragon Ball FighterZ presents itself as a complex fighting game with deep systems and has still found plenty of appeal is promising.

Dragon Ball FighterZ is currently available for Xbox One, PS4 and Steam. It will be receiving post-launch DLC characters via its FighterZ Pass with recent datamining indicating the inclusion of Vegito, normal Goku and Vegeta and many more.
