Friday the 13th: The Game Engine Update Targeting April Release

Dedicated servers will be further out and regular game update will halt in the meantime.

Illfonic’s asymmetrical multiplayer title Friday the 13th: The Game is still in business despite the relative instabilities it had at launch. Taking player feedback into account, the developer noted in October that it would upgrade to the latest Unreal Engine version.

Community lead Daniel Nixon has outlined some of the improvements that can be expected, including improved performance, better physics and fixes to “long-standing issues that will be automatically resolved by moving to the new engine version.” We’ll still have to wait a few more months with the development team targeting April for the same.

Another advantage of the engine upgrade is support for dedicated servers for those on consoles. We still have no information on when they’ll arrive though. As Nixon notes, “Our focus has to be on the [engine] update first. So we’ll need to wait until that’s wrapping up to start estimating the work remaining to get to dedicated servers, and provide you with that information.”

To prepare for the impending engine upgrade, the studio’s team has been fully transitioned to the same. Game updates will be stopped in the meantime but it’s all for the sake of hitting that April release window. Hopefully, once the engine upgrade hits, we’ll see Friday the 13th: The Game achieve its full potential. What are your thoughts on these changes? Let us know below.
