Overwatch Dev Looking At Balance Changes For Mei, Sombra, Doomfist, Hanzo

Director Jeff Kaplan and his team currently "experimenting" with "different things."

With the recent nerfs to Mercy and Junkrat, one has to wonder what Blizzard has in store next for its hero shooter Overwatch. As it turns out, game director Jeff Kaplan and his team have a plan for balance changes.

In an official forum post replying to nerfs for D.Va, Kaplan noted that, “We’re always evaluating all of the heroes. We don’t have any D.Va adjustments in the works. She gets played a lot and is very powerful but she’s not on our list currently.”

He then noted that current heroes on the list include Mei, Sombra, Symmetra, Doomfist, Torbjorn and Hanzo. Changes for Mei, Symmetra and Hanzo were discussed in the past though it seems that Kaplan and his team have arrived at something more concrete.

However, it was noted that there are currently “experiments” on going. “We’re trying different things for all of them. I know you want details but I don’t have them now – we’re experimenting. Some will be ready sooner than others. I’d expect Mei, Sombra and Doomfist first… maybe Hanzo depending on the direction we pick.”

While Sombra has been a perennial source of discussion since her introduction in 2016, Mei and Doomfist have been discussed primarily due to their lack of usage and limited viability respectively. Hanzo’s one-shot potential with Scatter Arrow has also been a constant complaint among some players so it will be interesting to see how things progress.
