The Game Developers Conference has been going on at San Francisco and developers from all over the world are present at the occasion to show off  some exciting new technology. Epic Games hosted a panel as well to showcase many impressive things including the “next-generation digital human”, real-time raytracing showcase, and more.

A short sketch in the Star Wars universe showed off reflections that can be achieved with ray-tracing. Along with Nvidia’s RTX and Microsoft’s DirectX Raytracing, Epic Games hopes to make this technology available to game developers later this year. Additionally, we also get to see some advancements in creating digital humans and in capturing facial expressions.

First of all, we get to see “Siren”, a digital human based on the likeness of a Chinese actress and this was done in a collaboration between 3Lateral, Cubic Motion, Tencent, and Vicom: Siren. On top of this, we also get to see an impressive performance by Andy Serkis, and we also get see this being transformed in real time into that of an alien delivering the same lines.
