Overwatch’s Mei, Reaper Will Receive Buffs in PTR “Hopefully This Week”

Lead designer Geoff Goodman also discusses Brigitte's role in the meta.

Blizzard Entertainment’s quest to provide a use for all heroes in Overwatch continues. Lead designer Geoff Goodman revealed in a recent Q&A that Mei and Reaper would receive some changes in the Public Test Realm on PC. Of course, he did note that it would be “hopefully this week”. For Mei, a defense hero with limited mobility, and Reaper, a close-range DPS with a fairly tame kit, these buffs will be quite useful.

However, “Buffs” shouldn’t be taken to mean that both heroes will suddenly be overpowered – Goodman said they would be “looking at” them. That could mean just about anything in terms of usefulness. Speaking on Brigitte who released this week and whether she was “sufficiently balanced”for the meta, Goodman said on the official forums that, “We’re always trying to get ahead of the meta and trying to predict what shifts are likely to take place

“In this case, we’re seeing some potential for a big tank meta on the horizon, especially with Moira just recently being released and how good she is at healing multiple tanks.”

Of course, buffs for tank heroes like Zarya and Roadhog or support hero Ana present a worrying situation for the team. “I’d certainly be worried about buffing heroes like Roadhog, Zarya, and even Ana until we can get a better gauge on how the game is shifting.” While Ana isn’t exactly the most popular in the current meta, Goodman said that there are a number of things that could be done. Plans are not quite in place at this time though.

In the meantime, keep an eye out for any particular updates to the Public Test Realm for Reaper and Mei. Let us know what you think of their current meta status in the comments.
