God of War Will Have Secrets and Easter Eggs Everywhere

“There are secrets hidden everywhere.”

God of War

The upcoming God of War is going to be an action RPG that encourages and invites exploration of its vast world by rewarding players who tread off the beaten path with great items and loots. But that’s not all that the game hides for those who plumb its depths—apparently the game will have secrets and Easter eggs hidden everywhere.

Speaking on the PlayStation Blog, director Cory Barlog revealed why he had chosen to pack his game with so many secrets, expressing enthusiasm for the kind of conversation and chatter that something like this can induce for a game, long after it has released.

“I’m a lunatic when it comes to that stuff,” Barlog said.  “There are secrets and references hidden everywhere. And I mean literally everywhere: We’re talking about physical packaging, menus, load screens when you hit the Options button, and stuff like that. That’s one of the things I hope for a long time after, people saying ‘Did you know…?’ I think that’s awesome. That’s the fun part about making games. There is a lot of complexity, but that complexity allows us to hide things that are really interesting and some that are really deep cut.”

Of course, it looks like they world of God of War is going to be enough of an incentive to explore and see what secrets it hides in and of itself—it looks so great, who wouldn’t want to see what all it hides? Plus, of course, it sounds like secrets will be hidden in beyond just the game itself, which is just great. God of War is due out next month, on April 20, exclusively on the PlayStation 4.
