God of War

The upcoming God of War looks like it will change dramatically and substantially on the previous titles in the series by reinventing its setting, characters, and gameplay entirely. One of the many changes the new game will have over the older ones will be the lack of a New Game Plus—instead, the new game will have “something different” that will allow players to keep on playing once they have finished the game, according to director Cory Barlog (though he, of course, declined to go into specifics of exactly what that might be).

Speaking of finishing the game, he also talked about the ending in an interview with Daily Star, noting that the new game ends on a cliffhanger, but also while resolving the plot threads of the title “naturally”—which makes sense, given we have been told multiple times that the title is meant to kickstart a new God of War series.

“It’s both,” he said. “So you get a bit of that and you also get the natural feeling of a conclusion to the game’s story. And then, like I said, I have never in anything I’ve ever worked on put as many secrets in a game as now. They’re literally everywhere.”

So it sounds like the ending of the game will prove to be interesting, from a narrative and a mechanical perspective. God of War is due out exclusively on the PlayStation 4 on April 20.
