Fortnite Hits 2 Million Downloads on Nintendo Switch in One Day

Talk about an absolute success, damn.

Fortnite Battle Royale

Fortnite is unstoppable. It ends up dominating on whatever platform it hits. It is already the top game on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and it has even managed to crack the mobile market successfully, becoming the rare game that managed to make a successful transition from consoles to mobiles.

And now, it has managed to do bonkers on the Nintendo Switch as well. In just 24 hours since the game released on the hybrid console, it apparently got downloaded over 2 million times. Given that the install base of the Nintendo Switch is likely under 20 million right now, that means 1 in 10 Switch owners have already downloaded the game. In 24 hours. Holy crap.

Fortnite’s launch went extremely well — we had more than 2 million downloads in less than 24 hours,” Reggie Fils-Aime, president and chief operating officer of Nintendo of America, told Polygon in an interview at E3 2018 today. “I think that speaks to the power of the franchise, the engagement of our players and the resonance of being able to play it anytime, anywhere.”

This should, hopefully, serve as an indication to other third parties that their games can and will do well on Switch. After all Fortnite, an online only GaaS style multiplayer shooter did- traditionally, that would be the exact opposite of the kind of game that you would associate with Nintendo!

This, then, continues the domination of Fortnite, which at last count had 125 million players(!) globally.
