Nintendo Now Shames Sony For Fortnite Blocking

Nintendo rightly takes a swing at Sony's "Pride and Accomplishment" moment.

Gamers aren’t the only ones upset about Sony’s locking out of Epic Games accounts from being used on other systems for the ever popular Fortnite. Though the practice isn’t new, it became far more of a problem, receiving mainstream media coverage, once the game was introduced to the portable Nintendo Switch, which gave players a real incentive to move between versions. Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime has now joined Phil Spencer in shaming their “taking the ball and going home” attitude.

Speaking to Polygon, Fils-Aime’s statement would iterate that Nintendo is a supporter of Cross-Play, and that’s all they can really do since the ball isn’t in their court there. “When it comes to other platform holders, as much as you have influence on other platform holders, I don’t. And that’s a decision that each of them are making, and some are supporting cross-play and some are not.” Said Fils-Aime.

It’s not been since Lootgate that we’ve seen the kind of pressure that’s coming down on Sony right now, even though their stance has been clear since Minecraft: Better Together. Epic Games has built the Battle Royale title to support cross platform play on everything and with Sony’s evasive response to the controversy being met with about as much mocking and eye rolling as “Pride and Accomplishment”, perhaps this might be what bends Sony if we keep yelling.
