Skyrim - Alduin

Skyrim, which is at this point available on everything, including Alexa (seriously), is one of the few major full fledged games that has been made available for the burgeoning VR market too. Skyrim VR launched for PlayStation VR late last year, and then was also made available to other VR headsets earlier this year.

Now, it has received an update- its very first one since January- that should make the PlayStation VR version in particular more enjoyable. Update 1.4.40.0.8 (I don’t know why it’s numbered that way either, stop asking me) improves the graphics of Skyrim VR, especially on PS4 Pro, adds more movement, control, and immersion options if you are playing with PlayStation Move controllers, and adds a new main menu experience. You can check out the full patch notes below, if you are interested.

If you haven’t played it already, The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim is available now on PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, PSVR, Nintendo Switch, Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and, yes, Alexa. I’m sure you can find something to play it on and see what all the fuss is about.

Skyrim PSVR Update Version 1.4.40.0.8 – Patch Notes

  • Added a new main menu experience
  • Globally improved visual fidelity, particularly on PS4 Pro
  • Increased the maximum value for the height offset slider
  • Various bugfixes
  • Changes when using PS Move controllers:
    • In direct movement, changed the secondary X button to move the player backwards.
    • Added a new option, enabled by default, to “Show Hands When Sheathed”
    • Sheath/unsheath has been moved to hold secondary O.
    • Adjusted angle for spell targeting to be more comfortable

    • Players can now point at map markers and get information on them in local map mode
