Destiny 2 Quickplay Matchmaking Currently Broken, Bungie Taking “No Immediate Action”

While Quickplay PvP matches are queuing up faster, match quality is very hit-or-miss right now.

Before the weekend commenced, allowing Destiny 2 players to try and best the Whisper of the Worm mission to earn a Taken-ified Black Spindle, Bungie reported some problems with Crucible matchmaking in Quickplay. A forum post by community manager dmg04 stated that the team “currently believe that neither connection nor skill is being factored correctly when forming matches.”

What this essentially means is that Quickplay matches can be formed against opponents that are way more skilled than you or simply outside of your area, thus increasing the potential for lag. PvP design lead Derek Carroll would chime in on what the developer was planning to do- which is basically “wait and see.”

“With the release of Update 1.2.3, we introduced 6v6 Quickplay with a bug that causes skill-matching and potentially connection-matching to fail in that playlist,” he said. “This results in much faster – but lower-quality – matches than normal. Our plan for the immediate future is to take no immediate action, monitor the health of the playlist, take notes, and ready a potential fix. We will inform the community of our findings and if we make a change, you will be the first to know (just like this time).”

On the one hand, many players are reporting a decent swathe of matches. Since Destiny 2’s PvP can place an unhealthy emphasis on skill, even in the more “casual” Quickplay playlist, not having it interfere in matchmaking can be liberating. On the other hand, players on the other end of the skill spectrum are reporting complete shutouts, being unable to compete with higher skill opponents.

It remains to be seen what Bungie does, but what are your thoughts on Destiny 2’s PvP matchmaking? Let us know in the comments.
