Gran Turismo Sport’s New Trailer Blurs The Line Between Game and Reality

Virtual reality gets a whole new meaning.

A brand new trailer for Gran Turismo Sport, Polyphony Digital’s newest entry in their long running racing sim franchise, was made available via Sony today. The trailer shows off just how Gran Turismo Sport is actually being used to supplement and help in the training of people who are practicing and training for real life motorsport, thanks to its exemplary handling models- the kind of blurring between game and reality that Polyphony Digital wanted to achieve with this game all along.

Indeed, that blurring of game and real life motorsport was what this title was pitched on to begin with- down to in game events occurring in conjunction with real life ones, for example. That style of racing games as a service is something that Polyphony have managed to deliver on, in spite of the initial skepticism that may have surrounded the game’s original announcement- though, of course, a lot of what made Gran Turismo so beloved to begin with is lost in this newest instalment as a result. Not that that has stopped it from being a success in its own right, of course.

If you want to see how drivers coming from the GT Academy are using the game to prepare themselves for actual racing, you can check out the trailer for yourself below. Gran Turismo Sport is available now on PS4. Microtransactions were recently added to the game- read more on that here.
