Xbox Elite Controller v2 Launching In October – Rumour

Is it finally happening?

Xbox Elite Wireless Controller

The Xbox Elite Controller v2 was leaked earlier this year, and though we have heard no sort of official confirmation from Microsoft that such a thing even exists, it almost seems inevitable at this point. Just last month, in fact, a bunch of details were leaked on the new controller, and now another report has emerged that suggests that it could be launching pretty soon.

Tom Warren, senior editor at The Verge, has posted a tweet claiming that the Xbox Elite Controller v2, which is codenamed “Washburn”, will be launching in October, and will be retailing for a price of $149. That, by the way, is also the price that the original Elite Controller launched for, so it does make sense.

As per earlier leaks, which you can read through the link provided above, the Xbox Elite Controller v2 is looking to improve upon a number of things over the previous version. That includes a three-stage trigger lock instead of the previous controller’s two-stage lock, tension control in the analog sticks, a USB-C charging port, as well as a charging dock. Additionally, we also assume the newer model will come with Bluetooth support, which wasn’t in the original version, though that’s not something that was mentioned in the leaks.

Either way, we should for sure soon enough- if the October release for the controller is real, then an announcement can’t be far away. Gamescom is just around the corner, beginning in a week, so that seems like the ideal time for Microsoft to make the announcement. Stay tuned, we’ll keep you updated. Meanwhile, if the $150 price tag seems a bit much to you, Microsoft recently also announced two more non-elite special edition Xbox controllers. Read more on that here.
