Assassin’s Creed Games Will Continue To Offer Gender Choice Going Forward, Ubisoft Says

“I think it would be a mistake to limit our fanbase.”

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is the first game in the series to allow a player set character with selectable gender. While Assassin’s Creed Syndicate had Evie and Jacob as a female and male character respectively, those were both canon characters that existed side by side in the main campaign rather than being an either/or choice.

Odyssey either lets you play as Alexios (male) or Kassandra (female), and you define those characters over the course of the campaign based on your choices. And if you thought this would just be a one time thing, and we might return to defined characters with the next game, well you might want to think again.

Speaking to GamesIndustry, Ubisoft Quebec’s Scott Phillips, acting as director on Odyssey, said that this is something that will continue in future games, at the very least ones developed by Ubisoft Quebec, if not all of them.

“I think it would be a mistake to limit our players, limit our fanbase from as many people as possible,” he said. “I don’t know why we would go back. We should continue pushing in this direction, bring in more players, more fans to enjoy this experience and make it their own experience.”

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey launches on October 5 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Make sure to check out the game’s launch trailer, if you want to get yourself hyped for its release.
