Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is out now, which means millions of players have been investing dozens upon dozens of hours into the game’s various modes. And it would be safe to assume that Blackout, its battle royale mode, is probably where most of that time is being spent. Apparently, people have already figured out some unique ways to gain small yet unfair advantages over other players.

For instance, several players have been using gestures (or emotes) in the game to peek around corners, which shields them from damage, of course, but also lets them make sure the coast is clear before they move out into the open. Treyarch, it seems, is aware of this “exploit”, and is currently working on a solution for the same.

Essentially, they’re going to implement two separate systems of gestures in the game, with the current default one being used in areas where gestures can’t be used to affect the gameplay balance (such as in Blackout’s staging area), and a competitive version of the system being used in, well, competitive situations, where a more restrictive camera will be implemented during gestures.

“We’re aware that players have been able to use Gestures (often referred to by the community as “Emotes”) to peek around corners in modes where that can create an unfair advantage,” Tryearch wrote on Reddit (via MP1st). “We’re currently working on an update that creates two systems for Gestures – the default system that is in the game now, and a competitive version that disables free look and applies different camera settings to prevent using it to see around corners. The default system will be used in parts of the game where corner peeking won’t affect gameplay balance (like the staging area of Blackout), and the competitive version will be used in modes where a more restrictive camera system is needed. We want players to always have fun with Gestures as intended, but never at the expense of fair gameplay!”

Black Ops 4 is out now, for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Check out trailers for Zombies maps Blood of the Dead and Classified, while you’re at it.
