Microsoft's Phil Spencer has only glowing things to say about Rockstar's latest.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is out now, and it stands to become one of the most successful games of the year within a pretty short span. It’s an incredible achievement on several fronts, and while it’s hard to point at any one single thing as the most impressive of a game as consistently amazing as this one, there’s a very good case to be made on that front for its visuals.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is a stunning beast no matter what platform you play it on, but it is, without a doubt, best played on the Xbox One X. Thanks to a native 4K resolution and mostly solid performance levels, it achieves the kind of visuals pretty much no other game ever has, and the fact that it does it all in a dense, expansive open world setting makes its accomplishments that much more impressive.

Recently, Xbox boss Phil Spencer boss took to Twitter to talk about the game’s Xbox One X version, retweeting Digital Foundry’s technical analysis of the game that rightly proclaims its Xbox One version as its best. Spencer then went on to post another tweet, in which he said that though he’s proud of how the game performs on the Xbox One X, the “true accomplishment” here is the game’s quality, and that you should play it on whichever system you can.

“Honestly most important is just play RDR2,” he wrote. “Play it on a Pro, play it on an S, play it on PC.” Well, it ain’t on PC yet, but some believe that that’s an inevitability at this point, and is bound to happen eventually. I’m inclined to agree.

Personally, I agree with Spencer on all fronts. Red Dead Redemption 2 is a visual masterpiece, which is best played on the Xbox One X, but really, it’s just a masterpiece all around, a generation-defining title, and you should play it on any system you can.
