Fallout 76 Players Have Already Made Some Basic Mods For It

They're nothing special, but something's better than nothing.

Fallout 76

Owing to Fallout 76’s always-online nature, mods were always going to be a bit complicated for it. It will have them, but given how they’re going to be tied to private servers exclusively, there’s a good chance that we won’t get to see any mods for the game till late 2019. Well- maybe not necessarily.

As it turns out, modders over at NexusMods (via WCCFTech) have already managed to create a few basic mods for Fallout 76, which is currently in beta, by reusing mod tools from Fallout 4. The mods themselves are cursory at best, and not really the kind of stuff you expect or hope for with a Fallout game- but it’s something, at least, and it shows that there might be a way to get mods for the game earlier than initially expected.

These mods do a variety of basic but cool stuff, such as retexturing things like NukaCola bottles and fisherman hats, darkening the colour of the Pipboy and cleaning up its screen, replacing the music in the main menu with “Country Roads” by Bill Danoff, and replacing the in-game paper map with one that’s more in line with what we saw in Fallout 4.

Fallout 76 is currently in beta- the problematic beta is somewhat concerning, but Bethesda seems to have expected that it would pose a number of unforeseen issues. Hopefully many of these will be ironed out by the time the game launches in full on November 14 for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
