Fallout 76 PC Framerate Locked to 60 FPS By Bethesda

Looks like this was one of the problems with the game they mentioned was getting fixed.

Fallout 76

Among the many exploits players have discovered in Fallout 76 ahead of its launch later this month, arguably the funniest was the one that tied speed to framerate—basically, you could move faster in the game simply by looking only at the ground, since that would require fewer things to be rendered, and hence lead to quicker frame rates and walking.

That issue is being addressed by Bethesda, who will now be locking the frame rate of the game to 60 frames per second. Locked framerate means it won’t get dips and spikes, in turn meaning everyone has the same framerate at all times, and therefore are playing on even ground. It also means that looking at the ground won’t work to be able to increase your walking speed.

We know this fix has been applied because PC gamers are reporting on Reddit that the framerate of the game is locked in the newest phase of the beta. Which, admittedly, is a fix, as I mentioned  before, but also a bit of a band aid. Bethesda will have to work on divorcing the game logic from the framerate as a permanent fix, so PC players can also enjoy the game with unlocked frame rates.

Fallout 76 launches for Xbox One, PS4, and PC on November 14. This isn’t the only exploit Bethesda has addressed, as it admitted in a statement released today that the developer has been busy at work addressing the feedback from players in the beta.
