Final Fantasy 7 Remake Development Is Not On Hold And Is Going Well, Says Director

Don't fret, Final Fantasy fans- Kingdom Hearts 3's development hasn't stopped Square Enix from working on the upcoming remake as well.

The protracted development of Final Fantasy 7 Remake is well known to most people by this point. Even though director Tetsuya Nomura said a few months back that the game was very much in active development, the fact remains that its 2015 announcement was very, very premature- to say the least. Recently, Nomura mentioned that as Kingdom Hearts 3 approaches its day of release, he’s been working on the game more and more, leading many to believe that as a result, development on Final Fantasy 7 Remake has stalled.

Now, though, Nomura has once again given a statement to Famitsu (translated by DKHF on Twitter, given below), where he clarifies that Final Fantasy 7 Remake’s development is progressing well, echoing his earlier statements, and that his work on Kingdom Hearts 3 hasn’t impacted that. He mentioned that since Kingdom Hearts 3 is quite close to launch, Square Enix’s marketing is focusing on that for now, but that once it is out of the way, their focus will shift to Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

Either way, the one thing that’s abundantly clear regardless of where Final Fantasy 7 Remake is in its development stage is that the game’s not close to launch. That said, that doesn’t mean Final Fantasy 7 fans are going to be totally parched until the remake finally releases- the original PS1 title is going to be part of the upcoming PS Classic’s lineup, while it was also announced for launch on the Nintendo Switch and the Xbox One.
