The latest Media Create charts for hardware and software sales in Japan for the week ending December 9 are in, and to no one’s surprise, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has blown all competition straight out of the water. With just two days on the market before the week’s tracking period ended, Nintendo’s latest fighter debuted at the very top, and managed to sell over 1.2 million units, as Famitsu was previously reporting.

Considering the extent of the game’s insane commercial success in other areas as well, and the pedigree of the franchise, this really shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone, in spite of the staggering figures on display here. What’s interesting is that the rest of the top 5 is also dominated entirely by Nintendo titles. Pokemon Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Eevee!, which was on top last week (and had been ever since its launch), got pushed down to second place, selling over 90,000 units. Following it are Super Mario Party, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and Splatoon 2.

Another new debutant in the charts is Just Cause 4, which has seen a fairly tepid debut, coming in at seventh place with just over 16,000 units sold. On the hardware front, the launch of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has resulted in a massive surge for Switch. The console-handheld hybrid had been consistently selling over 100,000 units every week since the launch of Pokemon, and this week, buoyed by both titles, it sold over 280,000 units.

The PS4 also saw boosted sales, with the Holiday season being in full swing now. Combined base model and Pro sales saw the system moving a total of roughly 75,000 units across the week, up from roughly 20,000 last week.

You can take a look at the full hardware and software charts below.
