Battlefield 5 – Dev Explains Why It Takes So Long To Quit A Match

It's because of map loading, explains producer Jaqub Ajmal.

One of the issues that a lot of players have brought up with DICE’s Battlefield 5 is that it takes an inordinately long time to quit out of a multiplayer match after finishing it. That’s a pretty basic thing, after all, so complains about the issue being prevalent isn’t something that’s all that surprising. In a recent AMA session on Reddit, Jaqub Ajmal, producer at DICE, explained why that happens.

Essentially, according to Ajmal, it happens because during the time when players are trying to quit, the game is already trying to load in the next level, which takes precedence, and ends up slowing down the process for players of quitting out of a match. Ajmal says that though DICE would like to fix the issue at some point, they currently cannot say just when that fix might be arriving.

“As I understand it, the reason why it takes so long is because we already start to load in the next level on the end of round screen, and currently we have some technical limitations with aborting the load process,” wrote Ajmal. “It’s something we of course would like to fix at some point but I do not have an ETA at the moment.”

Since launch, Battlefield 5 has been suffering from relatively disappointing sales, which is something that has made EA revise and decrease their revenue projections for FY 2019. Recently, DICE also reverted the controversial time-to-kill changes that were made to the game to make it more accessible to newcomers. Read more about that through here
