Destiny 2 Will Remove Legacy Gear Power Limits in The Final Shape

There's no "recovery mechanism" for those who deleted their Legacy items, but Bungie will reintroduce sources for "most or all of these."

Among its most unpopular decisions with Destiny 2, Bungie made two exceptionally annoying ones – vaulting previously released content, like The Red War, Curse of Osiris, and Warmind campaigns, and capping Power on Legendary gear. It would slightly alter course on the latter, ensuring that Legendaries released after a point didn’t suffer the same issue. However, in The Final Shape, it’s completely reversing the decision.

Legacy gear and weapons will no longer have a Power cap, primarily to fit with Bungie’s vision for Fireteam Power. As explained in “This Week in Destiny,” “You might have noticed as you read about Fireteam Power that the Adjusted Power shared by the Power Leader would sidestep the caps on old Power limited items, making it possible to ignore them. After thoroughly considering the problem space, we decided to remove Power limits from all items starting in The Final Shape.

“Always being able to play with your friends was a huge goal for us. As we close out the Light and Darkness saga, we want to rally all Guardians (active, returning, and new) to help fight the Witness, and there is no better way to play Destiny than with your fire team. As we pursued this goal, it became apparent that Power limits were fundamentally incompatible with Fireteam Power.”

What if you deleted those items because there was no indication that Bungie would reverse its decision? Well, bad news – there’s no way to recover them. Bungie will reintroduce sources for “most or all of these” and update them to the “modern Destiny sandbox standards.” It’s done something similar with the BRAVE arsenal of Into the Light, with legacy weapons like The Mountaintop, The Recluse, Luna’s Howl and Midnight Coup.

Launching on June 4th, Destiny 2: The Final Shape will be available for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS4, PS5, and PC. On top of no Power limits on Legacy gear, it also introduces new Exotic class items which can roll with two Exotic Gear perks. Head here for more details.
