3.2GHz AMD Zen/Navi Chip For PlayStation 5 May Have Been Leaked – Rumor

For now, this is unsubstantiated, and should be treated as such.

PCGamesN is reporting (itself sourced to an unverified Twitter account) that we may finally have some confirmation on what we can expect from the PS5 SoC. According to what the site is reporting, the product code for the AMD silicon bound for the PS5 has been leaked online. Said product code is 2G16002CE8JA2_32/10/10_13E9, and contrary to what you may expect, we can learn quite a few things from this.

First and foremost, this appears to be confirmation that the PS5 will stick with using AMD silicon. This was never in much doubt, but I suppose this is more substantial evidence towards that regardless. Next, the code number seems to indicate that the PS5 will use a Zen+ Core (rather than a Zen 2 one), indicating that it won’t be cutting edge. With that said, the PS5 was apparently in development before the Zen 2 even existed, so to an extent, this can be explained away with it being cutting edge when it did enter development.

Eight cores for the CPU are also indicated, although it is unclear whether they will have any simultaneous multi threading. Regardless, this all seems to suggest a step up over the current PS4 and PS4 Pro silicon, at the very least.

For now, this remains a highly unsubstantiated rumor, and you shouldn’t take it as a confirmation of anything either way. That said, given that the PS5 is expected to launch in 2020, based on rumors and analyses alike, these specs do seem to fit into the timeline.
