Xbox Hiring Strategic Partnership Manager To Get “Premium” Third Party Content From Japan

Phil Spencer appears to be following through on his commitment to Japan.

The one area Xbox has traditionally been bad at has been Japan. The consoles have always done poorly there (though the Xbox 360 did manage to crawl to over a million units sold in the country), though traditionally, the Xbox and Xbox 360 both managed fairly impressive Japanese content. That latter area has been one where Microsoft completely dropped the ball this generation, and which new Xbox boss Phil Spencer has belatedly been trying to rectify ever since.

Now, it seems like Microsoft may be preparing to have someone oversee their Japanese third party relations in a full time role. Based on a job listing on their website, the company appears to be hiring for a Strategic Partnership Manager, to procure “premium” Japanese third party content for Xbox and Windows 10.

The Xbox One has been doing a reasonable job of getting some of the bigger name Japanese multiplatform games, but has completely dropped the ball on mid and small tier games, and also has little to no Japanese exclusives—even the Xbox and Xbox 360 had those. Hopefully, whoever takes over the position is up to the formidable task of mending all these bridges that were burned earlier this generation.
