Super Mario Maker 2 was announced not too long ago, but it immediately became among the most highly anticipated releases for all Switch owners. And according to Nintendo, there’s good reason for that. While speaking at their most recent earnings call, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa spoke of the upcoming platformer-slash-creation toolset, where he mentioned that it’s going to introduce several new gameplay mechanics not seen in the Wii U release, and that it will be leveraging the unique hardware capabilities of the Switch to their fullest.
“This title is filled with new gameplay mechanics and new ways to play that were not previously available in the series,” he said. “The game takes full advantage of the features of Nintendo Switch to allow anyone to freely create and play their own custom Super Mario levels.”
Meanwhile, one of the things that people have questioned most often with Super Mario Maker 2 is how it will play without a stylus, something that the Wii U came with, and was integral in the original Mario Maker’s gameplay experience. Well, if you pre-order the game at retail, you’ll be getting a custom stylus, as Nintendo of Europe confirmed recently on Twitter. If you’re planning to get the game digitally but still want the stylus, you’ll have to pre-order the digital Limited Edition.
Super Mario Maker 2 is out on June 28, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
