Trine 4

The first two Trine games were acclaimed 2.5D side scrolling titles, noted for their fantastical art style, offbeat sense of humor, and interesting characters. Trine 3 took the series in a different direction with a full 3D title that saw largely mixed reception and was seen as a disappointment as compared to previous entries. Now, developer Frozenbyte is back with Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince, which they hope will be a return to form for the franchise. In a new behind the scenes video, the team talked about the game, the missteps of the past, and how they want to make this game the best in the series.

As you can see in the video below, the developers talk about Trine 4 as gameplay footage is spliced in. They talk about how they want the game to be not only a return to what people loved about the first two titles, but want it to be the best one yet. They also talk candidly about Trine 3 and how it was both a disappointment for fans and themselves, overstepping their ambition and making a product that was largely subpar, especially in comparison to what came before.

Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince will release this summer for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC. Alongside that, Frozenbyte will also release Trine: Ultimate Collection, a collection of every Trine title including 4. If you’re curious about Trine 4, you can check out some gameplay footage.
