The gaming world is abuzz right now about the recent partnership between Sony and Microsoft. It’s something the two are coming together for to improve cloud-based gaming, something on a big scale for the industry as a whole for the future. But on the Xbox side right now, we have some more minor, if very welcome, things coming in this month’s Xbox One update in regards to messaging, sorting, and friends lists.

One of the big things that will change is that those on your friends lists who are online will not just be identified by what game or app they’re using, but also what device they’re on, whether that’s a, Xbox One, a Windows 10 device, or mobile. And speaking of friends, messaging is getting some tweaks, too, as your message list will now give priority to those on you friends list and allow you to store other messages for those not on your list in a secondary tab. Unfortunately, that will mean that group messages from the past could be lost. For a limited time, you can go to Xbox.com and copy and paste those messages if there’s anything you need to save.

One last minor tweak to the system is that games will no longer be sorted by articles like “a,” “an,” or “the.” Meaning a game like upcoming The Sinking City will be under “S” and not “T”. The update should be live across all Xbox One platforms now.
