Rainbow Six Brand Director Proclaims Solo Campaign For Series Is Dead

It’s dead, Jim.

Rainbow Six Siege

Rainbow Six Siege launched to some mixed reviews and general skepticism due to its nature as a multiplayer-only title in a time when that wasn’t a hugely common thing, and being a big departure for the franchise as a whole. But as time has gone on, it’s become somewhat of a poster boy for how well the GaaS (Games as a Service) model can go with enough time and attention. What about a single player Rainbow Six? Though Siege has been a big success, even to the point of Ubisoft talking about extending it to next gen as opposed to doing a sequel, don’t be expecting to go solo anytime soon, according to the series’ brand director.

In talking with the Daily Star, Rainbow Six Brand Director Alexandre Remy was very blunt in saying that the Rainbow Six solo experience was dead and buried. He said that all focus and resources were on the ongoing multiplayer of Siege and any other potential future titles, and that the company saw no need for a single player addition.

“No, no, no. The Rainbow Six solo/single player experience is dead,” he said. “For Siege, forget about a solo campaign. We want this game to be a pure competitive multiplayer experience. All of our resources are going in that direction and to invest those resources elsewhere would be a digression.

“When you have a game that requires so much support, and so much caring in patching and balancing, I don’t think you have the luxury to divert. Our fans expect a certain level of quality and a mastery in our games that is extremely high. Why would you only make an OK-ish solo campaign?”

It wasn’t that long ago that Rainbow Six titles did feature campaigns, but it seems like if you want your fix now, you’ll have to do it with other games. Rainbow Six Siege is available now for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
