Cyberpunk 2077 Will Have More Romance Options Than The Witcher 3, CDPR Confirms

"Romancing is something heavily present in Cyberpunk," says the developer.

Cyberpunk 2077

In many ways, CD Projekt RED’s upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 is going to be similar to their 2015 open world behemoth, The Witcher 3, from how you summon your vehicles, to having multiple endings, to not having a strict morality system, to perhaps even how the game is going to be supported with expansions post-launch.

But it’s also going to be a very different experience at the same time. Among the many ways it deviates from anything the developer has done before is romance options, of which there’s going to be a lot more in Cyberpunk 2077 than there were in The Witcher 3. Reddit user magired1234 shared a screenshot of their conversation with Cyberpunk 2077 Lead Quest Designer Paweł Sasko over direct messages, in which Sasko confirmed the same. Owing to the fact that V, unlike The Witcher 3’s Geralt, also isn’t a predefined protagonist, players will also not be restricted to heterosexual romances, thus having more options.

“In terms of romances, you can think that it’s going to be similar to how Witcher 3 was,” Sasko said. “There were whole plotlines regarding character and if that NPCs were treated well and interested in Geralt, something was happening. So here it’s going to be very similar.”

“And of course players will have way more options than only heterosexual, as it was in the Witcher 3 (as Geralt was a defined character that was only interested in females),” Sasko continued. “Here you can define what type of interactions your character prefers and have a relationship with that NPC/NPCs.”

The same was also confirmed by CD Projekt RED to PC Gamer. The developer said in a statement, “Romancing is something heavily present in Cyberpunk, and players will be able to form meaningful connections with other characters as well as go for one night stands. Since we’re not bound by a predefined character like in The Witcher anymore, the game will feature romance options going beyond heterosexual.”

Cyberpunk 2077 is out on April 16, 2020 for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC, and it’s look pretty likely that it’ll end up launching with a New Game + option. In the meantime, be sure to check out our impressions on the game’s 50 minute-long demonstration at E3 2019 through here.
