GRID Director On Nintendo Switch Version: “It’s Something To Talk About In The Future”

But Codemasters remains focused on the game's launch platforms for now.

GRID

Codemasters recently announced their next crack at the motorsport genre, with a reboot to the GRID series. The game launches not long from now- but when it does, it won’t be doing so on the Nintendo Switch. So why exactly is that the case, especially considering the fact that GRID Autosport made its way to Nintendo’s platform not too long ago?

We recently sat down with GRID’s game director Christopher Smith for an interview at E3 2019, and ended up posing the question to him, and asking if there were any plans for a Switch version for the upcoming reboot. Smith told us that Autosport could work on the Switch because it was an older title, and since Switch lacked the technical prowess of the PS4 and the Xbox One, Codemasters are choosing to focus only on those and PC for now. That said, Smith went on to express his love for the Switch as well, before saying that a GRID Switch release is something the studio would possibly look into in the future.

GRID Autosport is an older game,” Smith told GamingBolt. “At the moment what we need to do is get it running great on the current consoles. Then we need to examine what we have to do to pull it back. Because as you know
the Nintendo Switch doesn’t have as much oomph as the current consoles. As you can see coming off of Autosport on the Switch, we love the Switch. I’m a big Nintendo head. I have absolutely hundreds of Nintendo Switch games. Again, that’s something for the future. It’s something to talk about once we’ve got this launch out on the current consoles.”

GRID is out on September 13 for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC- and no, it won’t have any microtransactions. In the meantime, check out some of its newest gameplay footage through here.
