No More Heroes creator and director of the upcoming No More Heres 3, Goichi Suda – or Suda51 – has spoken in the past about his ambitions for the upcoming sequel and how big he wants to go with it, and in a recent interview with Polygon, he spoke on the topic a bit more yet again.

Speaking to Polygon via an interpreter, Suda51 said that, keeping in line with what he realized with Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes – the spinoff that released earlier this year – is that he wants to make a game that those who want to enjoy it will be able to enjoy, rather than making a game that he thinks will sell.

“One thing that he was really made to realize with TSA was [that] it is really important to listen to what the fans want,” said the interpreter of Suda’s comments. “Again, not just to make it a game that will sell, but to make a game that the people who you want to enjoy the game are going to be able to enjoy it.”

With No More Heroes 3, then, Suda51 doesn’t just want to make a game that listens to fans and what they want, but actually goes above and beyond those expectations, and deliver an experience the likes of which they didn’t know they wanted, and weren’t expecting.

“He’s obviously got his own vision of what the game is going to be like, what he wants it to be like, and when he says he wants to make the game for the fans, he doesn’t just want to make the game that they are expecting,” the interpreter said. “The game that he wants to make is the kind of game that fans are expecting and the kind of game the fans want. He wants to not just […] answer those wishes and those requests. He wants to go above and beyond that and [get to work] putting in the shit that they want to see – give them all this extra shit that they probably don’t even know what they wanted or they wouldn’t even be expecting.”

No More Heroes 3 was announced during Nintendo’s E3 Direct last month. It is scheduled to launch exclusively for the Switch some time next year.
