Resident Evil 2 and Devil May Cry 5 were Capcom’s major new releases in the first three months of the year, and both were incredibly well received upon launch. That critical reception went hand-in-hand with solid sales as well, with the two of them standing at 4.2 million units and 2.1 million units respectively sold as of May.

Both games have continued to exhibit strong sales, as it turns out. Capcom has updated its official list of Platinum games – which refers to every game that has sold over a million units, and how many copies exactly each of them has sold – and the list includes updates figures for both the aforementioned titles.

Resident Evil 2 now stands at 4.5 million units sold worldwide, and is less than half a million units away from equalling the sales of the original 1998 release. Meanwhile, Devil May Cry 5 is currently at worldwide sales of 2.5 million.

Capcom is expecting the strong sales for both these games to continue for the foreseeable future. In a Q&A session during their recent quarterly financial meeting – where they reported strong profits – Capcom said that on the back of “promotions such as discounts for digital versions”, the company believes it is possible for both games to sell even more. As such, the publisher projects that both games will have sold an additional 1 million units each by the end of the current fiscal year – that is, March 31st, 2020.

That would take Resident Evil 2 to 5.5 million units and Devil May Cry 5 to 3.5 million units, making the former a better selling game than the original release it is based on, and making the latter the best-selling game of its franchise.

Resident Evil 2 and Devil May Cry 5 are both currently available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. You can read our review for Resident Evil 2 through here, and our Devil May Cry 5 review through here.
